After a nearly 25-year hiatus, the Ford Bronco is finally making its triumphant return in 2020. The nameplate happens to be one of the most beloved in Ford history, so it’s not surprising that expectations have been sky high since its announcement. And although the 2021 Ford Bronco hasn’t been officially unveiled at the time of this writing, we like what we’re hearing about it so far.

Expected Features and Specs

The 2021 Ford Bronco will be a mid-size SUV with a body-on-frame construction. It will be built at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant alongside the Ford Ranger, and as such the two SUVs will likely share similarities underneath the sheet metal. Adventurous drivers should really appreciate this vehicle, as Ford has designed it to be “…a no-compromise midsize 4×4 utility for thrill seekers who want to venture way beyond the city.”

Based on spy photos of the 2021 Ford Bronco, you can look forward to a boxy exterior that reminds us of Jeep—in a good way. There is much speculation that the Bronco might feature a removable top and doors, making for a true open-air experience. A 2.3-liter inline-four EcoBoost engine seems a likely candidate for the entry-level model, and we expect four-wheel drive to be available if not standard. From what we can tell, this is shaping up to be a serious off-road SUV.

More and more vehicles are being made available as hybrids, and 2021 Ford Bronco will continue the electrification trend. This follows news that a more compact version “baby Bronco” is also in the works, but details are scant for both variants. Expect them to arrive sometime after the initial launch.

Pricing and Availability

At the time of this writing, there’s no official word from Ford on pricing. That said, we expect the 2021 Ford Bronco to be priced to compete against off-road rivals like the Jeep Wrangler—which currently has an MSRP starting at $28,295. It’s all but certain that this SUV will launch with plenty of accessories, a must-have for outdoor adventurers.

Considering its model year, we expect the 2021 Ford Bronco to make its way into dealerships before year-end. Ford is planning for an official unveiling in Spring 2020, which should produce more information. We should have more details by the time the Detroit Auto Show rolls around in June.
